Parkrun Day!

Discovering my inner strength at Brisbane's Parkrun - from struggling to strolling up the hills. Every run may be tough, but showing up is what matters

Parkrun Day!

From Struggling to Strolling

Finding My Footing on the Hills

I still remember the first time I attempted a Parkrun in Brisbane. The hills were a nightmare – literally! I’d never been one for running and thought I was way out of my depth. But, something about the community and the challenge drew me back in. Now, I’m not exactly sprinting up those hills (okay, I’m still walking most of it), but I’ve made progress.

The weather’s not always kind to us here in Brisbane – hot, humid, or rainy – but that doesn’t stop me from getting out there and giving it a go. Every run might be tough, but I know I’ll feel proud of myself for showing up, no matter what the conditions are like.

Celebrating Small Wins

The thing is, progress isn’t always about huge leaps forward; sometimes it’s just about taking that next step (pun intended). It’s amazing how a small win can boost your motivation and keep you coming back for more. For me, it might be beating my previous time by 30 seconds or simply making it to the top of that dreaded hill without needing to walk.

Tips from a Seasoned Parkrunner

  • Start with small, achievable goals – like running to the next lamppost or completing one loop.
  • Find a buddy or join a group for motivation and accountability.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself – every run is a success, no matter how slow you are.

You’ve got this! Every step forward is a victory.
